David Stern owes Gary Bettman big time. There is no doubt whatsoever that the threat of a year long lockout played a huge role in forcing the hand of the NBA players. When Stern said he would yank the offer off the table and bring in a scorched earth policy if a deal wasn't done by July 1, all the NBA players had to do was look at the NHL to see that he might not have been bluffing.
