Anaheim Ducks to be renamed?
"With no remaining ties to Disney, NHL sources said Samueli likely would seek the NHL's permission to rename the club, maybe turning to the gold and green California Golden Seals uniforms to spark merchandise sales. The Golden Seals were an NHL club from 1967-76."
Back when the Samueli family purchased the Mighty Ducks, there were rumours that the team would also be getting a new name, logo and team colours.I'd love to see a name change, and the sense I'm getting from longtime Ducks' fans online is that they'd want merely a minor makeover, removing the 'Mighty' from the name and a logo redesign. Anaheim joined the NHL in 1993-94, so it does seem rather soon for a new name, but with the banishment of Disney from ownership, don't rule it out. Henry Samueli has said, however, that a name change will be held off for the 2005-06 season.
Some of the talk I'm hearing suggests the team could go with a variant of their third jersey, which ditches Disney's cartoon duck head. It's this one, shown on Fedorov and Giguere at right, that apparently Mr. Samueli is a big fan of.If you have any suggestions for new Duck names, let's hear them in the comments section. The only one I'll rule out immediately is The Los Angeles Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
Related to Monday's news that Brian Burke was hired by the Ducks, MVN's Steve Langevin is praising the move:
In my opinion, this sale and the hiring of Burke are two of the biggest moves in the organization’s history.

How about the OC Mighty Ducks?
Seriously, I think of Anaheim and besides Disney I think of the Santa Ana winds taht rip through the LA Basin as a whole... I don't thinkt he Torrents woudl be a popular name though.
Of coruse, earthquakes are also soemthing that comes to mind but I don't think the Quakes or the Tsunamis are going to be the new name for the team.
I just hope it's not a name that attempts to make the area look like it's Hollywood... Something original but something slightly intimidating...
You know, the anti-thesis of a Mighty Duck.
I've always had a tough time rallying up much respect for any team named the Ducks, be they from Anaheim or the University of Oregon.
There is, however, a bit of a generational gap on this one. I would be happy to see the name go entirely, but my eight year old son wants it to stay. He is the generation to whom the name was originally marketed...
The Golden Seals were up in Oakland; so I'm not sure why it should apply to a Southern Cal team. Besides, not much of a legacy to revive.
Personally, I never minded the Mighty Ducks, Disney connection or not. It's entertaining. And I much prefer it to a singular nickname like Wild or Avalanche (excepting the hometown Lightning, of course). I'd leave it alone.
I've always thought they should be called the Anaheim Aces . Afterall an Ace beats a King .
Anaheim Wavers
Anaheim Earthquakes, or Quakes
The Eliminators of Anaheim
Anaheim Pufferfish
how bout the Anaheim Losers!
First of all you can't just change the name of our team!! If anything the "mighty" is the only thing that should even be considered changing, What's wrong with being The Ducks? Nothing worse than the Penguins.. And our colors are look good. Definately shouldn't change the colors especially to orange and green, that's a horrible choice!!! GO DUCKS xox
