CBA announcement to come with timing

The Toronto Sun's Lance Hornby has some brief speculation on when the NHL could announce its new CBA in order to best garner media attention:
Keep in mind there traditionally are just two days on the North American pro sports calendar that are dark: Before and after the Major League Baseball all-star game, which is being played on July 12 this year.

The NHL could get maximum media coverage for its relaunch by announcing a new CBA on one of those dates — July 11 or July 13.
If the league does have enough foresight to plan in this fasion — something I strongly doubt — then we could have an announcement two weeks from now. Don't count on it.

The League is deluding itself if it thinks it matters what day this gets announced. In Canada, it is going to get massive coverage no matter when it is announced. In the U.S., hockey is a niche sport, much like lacrosse is in Canada. The diehards will care, while others will just wait for the latest NASCAR news. That's just reality, and the sooner the NHL figures that our the better off we will all be.
