Prince George quashes Hockey Gladiators event

The event I branded 'much-maligned' last week has hit another significant pothole. City council in Prince George, a city in northern British Columbia, have voted to kill the event, which had been schedule to take place in the city's CN Centre on Aug. 27.

The event's promoter, Darryl Wolski, has been searching for a location for his goonfest for a year-and-a-half and has purportedly sunk "well over seven figures" into the cause. It sounds as though Mr. Wolski should think about teaming up with hockey's other money-losing, non-starting entity, the reborn WHA. How on earth Wolski believed he would recoup that much cash by staging bouts between unknowns like John Craighead and Link Gaetz is beyond me.

Someone put this poor fellow out of his misery (although I do wonder if legal action may be pending against Prince George for quashing the event so late in the proceedings).

As much as I don't care for this event, it seems silly to me to cancel what is equivalent to a boxing event. Would the city hold emergency sessions to cancel a boxing tournament? Probably not... just more silly drama and politicians feeling the need to throw around their power and make themselves seem useful.
