The Globe's William Houston mentioned this move in his Truth and Rumours piece in Tuesday's paper, and today came the announcement. An excellent move by the CBC as Hughson has long gone underappreciated in North America as one of the top hockey play-by-play men out there.

A sportswriter at The Globe and Mail, James covers the NHL and the game of hockey. He is a member of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association, a senior editor with McKeen's Hockey and was the NHL network manager at SB Nation from 2008 to 2010. A graduate of Thompson Rivers and Ryerson universities, James grew up in Kamloops, B.C. — one of Canada's great hockey cities — and was a season ticket holder in the Blazers' glory years.

That's fantastic. I think he's a huge step up from Chris Cuthbert. (And that's really saying something.)
After Hughson left TSN, I figured he just didn't like all the travel or something.
Good pick up for HNIC, but leaving Cuthbert out to dry really sucked. I liked him doing the late game commentary.
Now, if they could only hire Mirtle, Pevans and me as three hosers to fill the second intermission with fart sounds and pornography.
Hell, it would beat listening to Al Strachan.

Jim Hughson is a really nice guy! My dad plays hockey with him and talks with accasionally! I've met the guy!!!! My P.E teacher knows him very well and says that he's always got new stories and old memories to talk about!!! Hockey and Jim Hughson is an awesome mix!!!! Keep up the great work Jimmy!!!!
