Picking (apart) Team Quebec
Eric McErlain at Off Wing addressed the 'Team Quebec' concept that Canada's Bloc Quebecois party proposed heading into the coming winter election.
For fun (I think), The Globe and Mail had hockey columnist Eric Duhatschek pick who would be on this 'Team Quebec.' I say 'I think' because it is on the front page, normally a place for all that is serious business in Canada.
Here's Duha's team:
Now, if this silly scheme actually came to fruition (it won't), I know what some Canadian hockey fans would be thinking. "You mean we only have to give up Mario, Brodeur, Luongo, Lecavalier, St. Louis and Gagne, and we'll get to lay a pounding on Quebec? Bring it on."Goal: Martin Broduer, Roberto Luongo, Jose Theodore
Defence: Eric Desjardins, Denis Gauthier, Patrice Brisebois, Stephane Robidas, Francis Bouillon, Matthieu Dandenault
Forward: Mario Lemieux, Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Simon Gagne, Alex Tanguay, Patrice Bergeron, Daniel Briere, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Marc Chouinard, Mike Ribiero, Ian Laperriere, Luc Robitaille
A Quebec-only team getting pummelled by English-speaking Canadian teams? Sounds like the Memorial Cup to me, where only three QMJHL teams have won in the last 33 years.
If my international readers are thinking 'Canadian politics are funny,' they're right.
UPDATE For those who missed it, I made my picks for Team Canada earlier this week.
