Something fishy at the Shark Tank

When the San Jose Sharks said last night that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov wasn't playing due to a groin injury, I didn't think much of it. Apparently, something else is going on in San Jose.

From the Mercury News:
After the victory Monday, Coach Ron Wilson said that Nabokov had "tweaked his groin the other night" and that the Sharks wanted to be cautious because of the groin problems Nabokov and Toskala endured earlier this season.

Nabokov, though, offered a somewhat different version.

"You ask them and they will answer to you," Nabokov said when asked about his injury status.

Did he pull his groin in Montreal or Ottawa?

"I don't have any comment on that one," Nabokov said. "I don't want to start anything, so just go ask the coaches all that."

He paused, then said: "I feel fine."

Mercury News reporter David Pollak offers more on the newspaper's blog, including some internet scuttlebut that has Roberto Luongo coming to the Sharks.

Nabokov's always been an odd duck, but this is definitely something worth keeping an eye on as he's a world-class goaltender and would be the kind of player worthy of moving for Luongo (unlike many other rumoured candidates).
