2006 Turin Winter Olympics
U.S. women criticize Canadian romps

This, to me, doesn't make any sense.

It's not the Canadian team's fault that the field in women's hockey is so weak, nor can they control that the format of the tournament depends on goal differential -- and by extension, lopsided scores -- for tiebreakers in the playoff rounds.

In related news, Angela Ruggiero is bloggin' on her website. I'd be interested to hear her comment on this story, as she's the one quoted in the Canadian Press story.

Okay, but the US team aren't posting wins nearly as big so far. Does that mean a) they aren't as strong a team as Canada, or does it mean b) they are better sports?
I strongly suspect there is a secret option c) out there, perhaps the USA's easiest games to come or something, but it's getting brutal.

The American women seem to have this amazing inability to keep their mouths shut while at the Olympics. Why would they do or say anything that might rile up Canada and give them an edge? For a Harvard grad, Angela isn't terribly smart.

On a side note about Americans, MICHAEL FARBER needs to shut the F&*K up, he is a complete moron, and dosn't know shit about Canadian hockey. Writting an article on how Gretzky will only distract Team Canada from winning, you fucking idiot, Canada is going to kill the U.S team, that is if the loser-American Team even makes it that far. Mind you god-damn business Farber, I hope you read this...

The whole, "Gretzky will be a distraction" issue has been completely media manufactured, and a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's a classic case of the media creating a story out of necessity. Once the new information stopped coming out regarding the Tocchet story, the media was like a crack addict waiting for more. Therefore, they all attached themselves to Gretzky, fully convinced that there just had to be a scandal in there somewhere. I'm not one of those who regularly goes media bashing, but guys like Steve Simmons and Michael Farber fully deserve it in this instance.
