2006 Trade Deadline
Dwayne Roloson to Edmonton

Edmonton Oilers acquired goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a first round pick and a conditional 3rd round draft pick.

I like this deal for the Wild for a number of reasons, the main being that GM Doug Riseborough realizes his team is too far out of the playoff picture and is looking towards next season. He also gets a great return on an otherwise worthless asset. The only way this deal backfires on the Wild is if Roloson does, indeed, resign with the Oilers and Minnesota has to face their ex-'tender all next season.
I said yesterday that the best goaltender available for Edmonton to nab was, in fact, Roloson, and I still feel this was the best the Oilers could have done. The price was rather high, especially given Edmonton could still slip out of the playoffs, but Roloson is a proven No. 1 netminder and has playoff experience. I also wouldn't be surprised if he sticks around another season with the Oilers.
