Chara hurts hand on Cairns's melon
There's no doubt Ottawa Senators defenceman Zdeno Chara can fight. There's also no doubt his club doesn't want him to.
And this is why:
Zdeno Chara is paying the price for fighting back.In case you haven't seen it, have a look at the fight here.
The Ottawa Senators defenceman has a bruised right hand after fighting Eric Cairns of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday and won't play tonight against the Buffalo Sabres or tomorrow versus the Philadelphia Flyers.
The earliest Chara could return to action is Tuesday, when the New Jersey Devils visit Scotiabank Place.
The hand was badly swollen yesterday, and Chara's absence will force coach Bryan Murray into more roster shuffling with the club's growing injury list.
Those that have seen Chara throw 'em before know the big man is as tough as they come, but even that can't prevent cracking bones in your hand on a cement-head like Cairns. The Senators should just be thankful they won't be losing big 'Z' for any more time.
Murray wasn't pleased.
"You don't want people like that fighting," he said yesterday. "I've had a history with a couple of other guys who hurt their hands to the point where they had to quit playing early. He hits too hard, he hit (Cairns) real hard on top of the head. Sometimes, you have to (fight), but you've got to pick your spots."
