Theodore dealt for Aebischer
An unfathomably poor trade by the Colorado Avalanche.
For salary-cap reasons alone, the deal doesn't make sense for GM Pierre Lacroix. Theodore is due $5.333-million next season, which will put Colorado, already tight up against the cap, in a difficult situation with some of their veteran talent.
More to come on all today's transactions...

I think Theo will rebound next year and I still think you're understating how bad this trade is.
I wonder if Keenan will bite and move Luongo out of conference for a Hart and Vezina winner.
I've been saying the same thing, James. Lacroix is taking a helluva gamble with this. Theodore's had an awful season, and is out until at least late March with a broken right heel. Now Lacroix is entrusting Budaj and Kolesnik to carry them in a tight playoff race. Moreover it'll take Theodore some time to round back into game shape.
Factor in Theodore's big salary and the fact Lacroix has to re-sign Sakic, Blake, Tanguay, Svatos, Liles and Vaananen next season, even with a cap raise Theodore's salary could make things tight for Lacroix.
For his sake, Theodore better return to at least his 2003-04 form.
