Lombardi to join the Kings

Former San Jose Sharks GM Dean Lombardi will be named the Los Angeles Kings new president and general manager in the next week or so, according to several sources.

Lombardi's been the best general manager without a post for a few years now and was the architect of the Sharks teams we've seen the past few years.

They are dissecting Dean Lombardi five ways to Sunday on the forum.

You have to like what he did in San Jose. He built from the goal out, and drafted defenseman first or second for 8 straight seasons [Andrei Zyuzin, Scott Hannan, Brad Stuart, Jeff Jillson, Christian Ehrhoff, Tero Maatta, Dan Spang].

His free agent pick ups are were similar, he brought in character guys who would work hard for Darryl Sutter. They did not always work out, but you could see the reasoning behind each addition.

The one thing I worry about is time. Los Angeles need changes from top to bottom, and I wonder if Kings fan has that much patience.

One question I always wanted to ask Lombardi is how much input did he have drafting, and how much did he rely on his scouting department. Either way, the results say a lot about what he would bring to Los Angeles.
