On Game 7

On the day of the final game of the Flames-Ducks first round series, Eric Duhatschek offers some pertinent numbers on Game 7s:
In the previous 116 Game 7s played in league history, the home side has won 73 (or 63 per cent). Altogether, 29 seventh games have been decided in overtime. Home teams have posted a 15-14 record in the 29 games, although road clubs are 10-4 since 1990. There has been a least one seventh game that's gone to overtime in 18 of the past 22 seasons.

Game 7 is played on the home ice of the team that finished the season with a better record. it's no suprise that this fact, along with the home ice advantage leads to a higher win ratio for the home team.

Very true, Nick, but what are you expecting? Hockey commentators controlling for other factors? Next thing you're going to ask is whether there's actual evidence that the first goal is really more important than any other goal.
