Don't be surprised if the Oilers trade Chris Pronger to free up some money. He has a whopping salary and the return could be significant.

Yeah, in an NHL where the individual cap is 8MM or so and the team cap is $44MM, Pronger at $6.25 doesn't look so bad.
Sometimes it seems that Strach is on crack... If the Oil deals Pronger before next season, then I'll eat my entire computer piece by piece...
Did Strachan watch any games this year? Without Pronger, not only would the Oilers not have beaten Detroit, they wouldn't have made the playoffs. Yeah, getting rid of Pronger would make real good economic sense...
Considering the pricetags on defensemen who signed during the season (Norstrom at 4.25 mill comes to mind), Pronger at 6.25 is a steal for at least the next 2 or 3 seasons.
Besides, if they trade him, they have to replace his minutes with another big minutes d-man and at least another top 4. This is especially true given the wear that Staios, Spacek, and Smith showed with the minutes they were playing.
Anyway, it'll be a shame if Lowe makes another big package deal (which is likely given the number of forwards coming down the Oiler pipeline) and Strachan somehow tries to take credit for the "close" prediction.
Mirtle's post title says it all.
Strachan's been ready for the gue factory for a while now. Maybe he can go with Cole and Neale - sort of a three for one special.
Aw, gee. This post summarizes in one sentence that I took about 600 words to list on my last blog entry...

Pronger to St. Louis for the first overall pick? Hmmm. Pittsburgh for second overall? Hmmmm.
Uh, glue factory.
Cole: And CAROLINA is going to get a penalty!
(commercial break)
Cole: Carolina is going on the power play. Spacek is in the box. For - holding!
Neale: It doesn't matter how you feel, those cows still need milking!
Hahahaha
You can practically hear his liver-spotted fist whacking away at his balls as he jerks off onto the page.
Wow. That guy must have been hit with a stupid truck.
Trading away Pronger? The Oilers would have been laughed out of the playoffs in 4 games against Detroit if it wasn't for him, let alone making it all the way to the game 7 of the Finals. The Oilers knew this when they signed Pronger, the fans now it now. Trading him would be suicide. The Oilers made a lot of moves to prove they were serious about being contenders. Trading Pronger would make them look like...well...the canucks.
If that's the kind of fluff journalism the Toronto Sun wants, I should send them my resume.
Strachan just appeared on Team 1260 radio in a taped interview from his cabin in New Brunswick. He not only stood by the comment (obviously written between trips to the minivan with camping equipment), he claimed it was only "fifty-fifty" that Pronger would be back.
Needless to say, Kevin Lowe came on the line immediately and started goofing on Strachan. "Sounds like there's a lot goin' on!" he said to host Bob Stauffer. "How'd you enjoy your summer?" He went on to call Strachan a "big windbag" and to describe his comments as "unethical."
If they do trade Pronger, they should be immediately confined to a padded room with those rounded scissors they gave us in kindergarden to prevent the poor, demented souls from doing themselves an injury.
Colby, that post you made is outstanding. Now I hate Strachan even more!

Kevin Lowe said that Strachan's comments were unethical? Now that worries me. Especially if Lowe got on the line "right away." Seems like that Strachan might actually be onto something, scary.
This comes in light of the fact that there have been rumours that Pronger and his wifey aren't happy in Edmonton, and that Pronger has done very little in interviews to suggest that he wants to stay.
If Pronger got traded I think I would throw up on the spot.
He called the piece "unethical" because it's entirely a product of Strachan's imagination, such as it is. In Strachan's taped interview he basically said he could see Pronger leaving because Edmonton winters are really tough. Funny, I'd have thought the big guy could afford a fuckin' beach house in Maui, like thousands of other Edmontonians.
I love how rumors in sports get started because sports writers have nothing to write about, so they just float some idiotic notion out there that lacks even the slightest resemblence to plausibility.
So are any of you going to man up and admit you were completely wrong?
Not defending Strach because I'm a co-worker fwiw, but because he got the scoop and everyone mocked him.
Yeah and how do we watch anonymous eat his/her computer?
