Snow addresses Islanders fans

You can say a lot of things about the nutty circumstances that saw Islanders' GM Garth Snow land in his job, but I think we should give the former goaltender some credit for doing things a little differently already.

In a long letter to Islanders fans posted on today, Snow speaks to his approach to team-building and hints that more moves may be on the way. He also says there'll be a grown-from-within strategy in the organization, whereby the youngsters will be allowed to flourish.
As a sports fan like you, I love the home-grown guys. That's why Jeter and Bernie are immortal Yankees, why David Wright and Jose Reyes are so dear to the hearts of Mets fans. Of course, we love all of our Islanders, but how can you not be excited about DiPietro…Robert Nilsson…Ryan O'Marra…Petteri Nokelainen…Jeremy Colliton…Kyle Okposo…Blake Comeau…Sean Bergenheim…Chris Campoli…and so many others.

I shared the same ice surface with all of them. Take my word for it. Something special is happening here. Thanks to our scouts, the present and future are very promising.
Snow has also setup an email address where fans can contact him with questions — — which is something I've never seen an NHL GM do.

As I said, let's give him credit. While he may be inexperienced, an open forum where the ticket-buying public has access to management is never a bad thing.

Don Waddell has had an "ask the GM" mailbox for as long as I've paid attention to the Thrashers, so Snow certainly isn't the first or only GM to do it.

I'm waiting for the "Ask Chairman Wang" mailbox to be set up.
