Replacing the Scotts
After long-time New Jersey Devils captain Scott Stevens was forced out of the game with a concussion in 2004, Scott Niedermayer took up the reins as the team's leader.
With Niedermayer moving on to the Anaheim Ducks following the lockout, coach/GM Lou Lamoriello opted to go the 2005-06 season without a captain but will be naming one this time around. Who will that be?
The rest of the series
Replacing Stevie Y. (Detroit)
Replacing Jumbo Joe (Boston)
Replacing Johnson (Nashville)

There shouldn't be much doubt about this one. Elias made a big committment to the franchise and is obviously their most complete and important player.
Is it hockey blasphemy to suggest that the whole issue of the "C" is grossly overrated? Hockey has built up a considerable mythology about this issue over the years, but I don't think there's much evidence to suggest it is all that important to the guys in the room, or that it impacts on-ice performance much. By and large, I think it is a media and fan created issue.
It's probably a little overrated, sure. There's so little happening right now, I figure these polls are a good way to at least have something interesting going on around here.
(I find it neat to see which players people think are 'captain' material. Also, a guy like Chara is probably the frontrunner in Boston, but he didn't get a ton of votes. I wonder why?)
Probably because Chara is new to the team.
Hey Mirtle, what's the league's logic against letting a goalkeep carry the "C"? It's a league-wide rule, is it not?
Otherwise, Brodeur would be a good call here.
