Canadian is top bidder for Penguins

If you are among the millions of people who can't live without one of the ubiquitous wireless BlackBerry devices, then you know why Jim Balsillie is a multimillionaire.

Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO of Research in Motion, the company based in Waterloo, Ontario, that makes the BlackBerry, has emerged as the latest frontrunner to buy the Penguins, two sources with knowledge of the sale process said yesterday.

— Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Balsillie has expressed interest in bringing a team to Hamilton, Ontario, in the past, and you have to think this is another attempt at such a move. There's no question in my mind that southern Ontario could support one, if not two, additional NHL franchises.

But would MLSE have any of it?

That and from when I last checked, the Bulldogs weren't exactly setting any attendance records at Copps (although if Hamilton had an NHL team named the "Toronto Bulldogs of Hamilton," it might work).
