Predicting the Art Ross

I've seen more than a few pool books so far predicting that 19-year-old Sidney Crosby will be this year's scoring champion, but I'm curious about others' opinions.

Who will win the 2006-07 Art Ross Trophy?

Unless Crosby suddenly grows some linemates or they sacrifice their second line by moving Malkin to wing, Crosby just doesn't have the support to win it this year. With that said, I think he and Ovechkin will be very close to the top, with Ovechkin edging him out slightly. It'll be a "topic" next season or the season after when Crosby finally surprises Ovechkin in point totals.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that Robbie Schremp wins the Art Ross and the Maurice Richard, scoring a record 669 goals on the season. He will wear his banana hammock to the NHL Awards, and Bob Cole will die of cardiac arrest.

Based on the Art Ross Trophy history I will go #1 with Jagr. Washington was a good team until they lost Jagr...

Similar to the year after Bertuzzi and Naslund's great run, I expect Cheechoo and Thornton to have some slightly lower scores. However, Joe Thornton is a good #2.

Forsberg as #3
Iginla as #4

Wait, wait, wait-- the Caps were a good team until they lost Jagr?? That's news to plenty of Caps fans.

Especially considering that he averaged 78 points in his two full seasons. He only started playing well when he hinted he wanted to be traded. They missed the playoffs his first season there and lost in six games the next season.

However, he has a good shot of being top dog if he can stay healthy and play the whole season.

A. I'm surprised by so few Iginla votes. I figure he's in for a comeback year especially if he is flanked by anyone half-decent (likely in a Tanguay jersey).

B. I still giggle at every Captain America reference. I'm so glad I found that. I wish I hadn't let MC79 steal my thunder...

The Flames consider crashing the net from different angles as offensive creativity.
