Hockey's most hated GM steps down

Here's one move that no one could have predicted heading into this season: Flyers GM Bob Clarke and head coach Ken Hitchcock are the first executive and bench boss to walk the plank in 2006-07.

Unfortunately, firing Hitch won't make their defense skate any faster or improve the goaltending.

It will be intriguing to see how this develops in terms of players on the ice this season and the next.

So long until Hitch ends up in Phoenix?

I hope Snider hires Mike Milbury!

Just kidding.

I have written an extended piece on this. It's from the POV of a Devils fan, but I think it's interesting.

Check it out here on my blog.

My thesis is that Clarke essentially bought the hype and didn't do his job, and only now when he can't cover it with money does it really show.

P.S. I predicted it. You sound like Condi Rice.

No truth to the rumor that they are offering the GM job to Robert Esche either, is there?

You joke about Esche but Dreger at TSN reported the rumour that Hextall is being considered.

It's not as crazy as Snow because at least Hextall was seeing the players on the ice and not from the bench...

What a clusterf@#& of an organization. I feel sorry for Flyers fans. The team got schooled by the Sabres last season and now the team is in disarray. Hopefully a new administration will take this team in a new direction.
