Coyote ugly
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I got a small kick out of Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson's comments today in the wake of dealing away Mikael Tellqvist to Phoenix for Tyson Nash and a fourth-round pick:
"I would assume the pick will be around 100 [overall]," Ferguson said Tuesday afternoon. "That's a pretty solid pick."As in: "I would assume the Coyotes will finish around 20th in the league..."
As for the deal itself, well, Toronto was one of the only teams in the league paying three goalies (Detroit, I believe, is the other), and in a salary cap land, that's not really a long-term strategy that makes sense.
I watched Nash and Darcy Tucker player together with the Kamloops Blazers for a number of years, and they are apparently still good friends, so it might be interesting to see if the Leafs plan on using the 'superpest' in the NHL at all this season.
Barring injuries, probably not.

True, 2 goalies are better than 3, but Toronto's 3 goalies combined were still making a fair bit less than Ottawa's backup goalie (Gerber) so it isn't like Toronto was wasting a ton of salary room on Tellqvist.
As for Nash, I can't see him making the Leafs any time soon. I suspect it was just a salary dump on Phoenix's side as he's probably on a one-way contract to make room for Tellqvist's salary. Nash would have to clear reentry waivers and that dramatically reduces the chances of him getting called back up.
James, Do you have a nice web-links where we can see the salary ca^p space of each NHL teams?

Leafs were dumb to trade for Nash. Guy's a garbage player. He'll just eat up ice time for some poor kid on the Marlies who won't get some needed experience.
Well it was get something for Telly or lose him to waivers and pay his salary so it was a good move.
The 4th round pick was definitely the key. I'd be surprised if Nash sees a game with the big club.
