Coyotes' goalie search intensifies

When asked who would be Joseph's backup on Wednesday if a trade is not made, Gretzky said he did not know.

"We're trying to turn over every rock we can right now. We definitely need someone to go in there and give Curtis some time (off). Curtis can't play every game."
And what if this 'under the rocks' strategy fails to turn up the next Patrick Roy, one wonders? And what about David LeNeveu, Gretzky's proclaimed goalie of the future? Is it time for goaltending coach Grant Fuhr to strap on the pads, just to get a few more FOG onto the ice?

Not that any of this was predictable.

His time would be better spent searching for a game plan.

The Leafs, of course, have a goalie available, but the Coyotes are so obviously desperate that the price will be high, and the 'Yotes have no assets to move.

Jason Labarbera is in the Kings' minor league system, and was on waivers early in the season. Wade Flaherty is in Manitoba for the Canucks, and is clearly not part of their future. It's slim pickings, but that's about what's out there right now.
