Pool update: '07 Blogger Invitational
It's time to both praise and shame the hockey pooling skills of various hockey bloggers around the 'net. Back in September, I setup the inaugural Yahoo! hockey pool tournament for hockey bloggers from around the land, and six weeks in, it's been a pretty competitive head-to-head circuit so far.
With 20 teams and rosters of 15 players plus four bench positions (C x 3, LW x 2, RW x 2, D x 4, Util x 2, G x 2, BN x 4, IR x 3), it's made roster improvement via the free-agent pool difficult. (The highest-ranked player available for pickup is currently Chicago's Martin Lapointe.)
Here's what the standings look like to this point:
- Spector, 50-26-8
- Covered in Oil (Chris), 47-26-11
- Earl Sleek, 47-28-9
- Cousin BJ, 43-28-13
- Mirtle, 45-31-8
- Covered in Oil (Dave), 42-31-11
- Kukla, 41-30-13
- Pevans, 40-31-13
- Battle of Alberta (Matt), 39-34-11
- mc79hockey, 36-38-10
- Battle of Alberta (Grabby), 36-38-10
- The Ice Block, 34-38-12
- Hockey Rants, 34-38-12
- Covered in Oil (Mike), 33-38-13
- Sabre Rattling, 31-39-14
- Canucks Hockey Blog, 32-41-11
- On the Wings, 29-40-15
- Off Wing Opinion, 23-48-13
- PuckUpdate, 23-50-11
- Abel to Yzerman, 20-52-12
As for the two non-hockey bloggers listed, one is good old Cousin BJ and the other is my pal Pete Evans, who are the two best poolies I know and are taking part as 'Black Aces'.
The winner of this whole shindig will get some sort of an NHL-related prize, yet to be determined.
An early favourite? Earl's Duck-filled team, which includes Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf, Andy McDonald, J-S Giguere and four other Anaheim players.
