About Me

- Name: James Mirtle
- Location: Toronto
A sportswriter at The Globe and Mail, James covers the NHL and the game of hockey. He is a member of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association, a senior editor with McKeen's Hockey and was the NHL network manager at SB Nation from 2008 to 2010. A graduate of Thompson Rivers and Ryerson universities, James grew up in Kamloops, B.C. — one of Canada's great hockey cities — and was a season ticket holder in the Blazers' glory years.

Yes! Do it! I can already see the Sidney Crosby commercials for Cheetah!
He was also "interested" in bringing the CFL back to Ottawa. I think it's safe to say he's full of hot air.
Where's Mark Cuban, dang it!
I'm pretty sure Cuban changed his mind. Apparantly he said he realized he didn't have time to own another team. Personally, I think he just realized that its harder to be an unofficial mascot from the seats in a hockey game.
Either lack of time, or Cuban figured that it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining to tweak Bettman as it is to bait Stern. Pity. I'd love to hear that. :)
It's bothersome that D'Angelo's publicity stunts are even reported on by newspapers and TV networks.
The guy has little-to-no credibility, and I doubt he really he has the backing he claims. But if I'm proven wrong, I will eat crow and even wash it down with Steelback beer. I'm not sure which would be worse.
The beer. Though wouldn't it be ironic if the Pittsburg Penguins went from potentially being owned by a tech billionaire, to a millionaire who makes beer for homeless people and welfare recipients.
Ug. The CFL wouldn't even let him own a team (and believe me, they are desperate for an owner for the Ottawa franchise). They told him that they were not interested in his offer, and are not going back to him despite there being no other interested parties for the Renegades.
Do you think Bettman is crazy enough to let a CFL castoff run a team in the NHL? (shudder)
I think it would be great to see Crosby and Malkin in those dressing-room commercials alongside Ullman, Potvin and the Esposito brothers. WE NEED THIS TO HAPPEN.
As Mrs. Tony Esposito says, "It was a childhood romance. I was the child, he was the hood."
