Sabres fans get out the vote
Well, I give credit to Buffalo Sabres fans: They know how to win an election.
The latest Eastern Conference all-star voting tallies were released about an hour ago, and there's a whole lot of Buffalo: the top goaltender (Ryan Miller), two of the top five defencemen (Brian Campbell and Henrik Tallinder) and four of the top 10 forwards (Daniel Briere, Maxim Afinogenov, Chris Drury and Thomas Vanek) are Sabres.
Other interesting trends... well it's good to see Cristobal Huet rise up the goaltender ranks as a write-in, although he should have been included from the get-go. I'm a little surprised to see Olaf Kolzig at ninth, as the big guy has quietly had a terrific season (highlighted by that 48-save performance there last week).
On defence, Jay Bouwmeester is getting a lot of love for some reason, although it should probably be Sheldon Souray and Tomas Kaberle up a little higher. (That said, I don't really have a problem with Campbell getting in as a starter... he's played very well.)
And upfront, well, Sid Crosby is a no-brainer and will probably be voted in as a starter from here until 2023, but it's curious to see Evgeni Malkin usurp countryman Alex Ovechkin. There's also, inexplicably, a lot of write-in love for Marco Sturm and Chris Neil.
