All-stars up against American Idol

In the collective sporting mind, the NHL is the fifth-place league in a four-league world. This statement has become so much of a fact that there is little reason to answer questions like "How?" and "Why?"

And it will need all the help it can get to pull viewers to Versus for a Wednesday-night all-star game. After all, the fourth edition of America's great karaoke competition, "American Idol," will air in direct competition.

i would think the fan base for the two is quite different. and if the nhl loses out a few people to ai, that's there own fault for putting the asg on a week night.

1) Many actual NHL hockey fans don't even tune in to watch the game. Maybe the intros, but the game usually sucks.
2) We doubt it would attract many non hockey fans anyway. Might as well have it up against the Super Bowel. The ratings will be about the same regardless of what its 'up against'.

5th in a league of 4? I didnt realize we were that strong. WNBA and the Pro Bass Tour need to be looking over their shoulders.....

NHL can't get there regular season schedule right. What makes you think they can get the All-Star game right with only three years of planning.

All-star weekend allowed out of town fans to visit. Even if the games are shinny, the fans at least got to see a lot of the stars at once.

Why can't this league leave well enough alone?
