Smyth denied No. 94

It looks like Ryan Smyth is going to have to pick a new jersey number for his first-ever all-star game appearance: Surprisingly, there's another No. 94 on the Western Conference team's roster, a player who has more seniority than the long-time Edmonton Oiler.

I think Perreault should take # 49, and graciously offer # 94 to Captain Canada.

Ryan Smyth not wearing No. 94... that's hard to picture.

How did he end up with that numeral. There must be a story.

It's the year he graduated from high school. His parents were worried that he'd flunk out because of the hockey, so both he and they were very proud when he graduated.

As a secondary reason, it's also his draft year.

Ah, high school grad year. I wondered since he is about 30 years old.
