Eklund to join Sportsnet panel

We are very happy to announce that Eklund will be in Toronto and on the set for Sportnet Canada's Trade Deadline Show that will run from 10-6 pm on Tuesday, February 27 from coast to coast in Canada. Eklund will join Nick Kypreos, Bill Watters, Daren Millard, and an all-star cast...
Sportsnet has been down this road before, as back during the beginning of last season, anonymous blogger Eklund was (for a short time anyway) one of the network's web-based columnists.

The trade deadline has become somewhat of a circus on Canadian television, with all three sports-only networks (TSN, Sportsnet and The Score) going all out in an attempt to 'break' the day's various deals. Recent years have seen the creation of eight-hour panel shows, which is where Eklund will come in. (My understanding is that he'll be in a booth with his face concealed, working his various sources all the while.)

Over at Hockey's Future, there's an expansive thread discussing the move, one in which the thread-starter HamiltonBruins lays out the disparity between the two panels:
TSN: Darren Dreger, Bob McKenzie, Gord Miller, Pierre McGuire, James Duthie
SPORTSNET: Nick Kypreos, Bill Watters, Daren Millard, Eklund
And that doesn't even mention the extra 'talent' TSN is likely to bring aboard for the special occasion.

Dreger jumped ship from Sportsnet to TSN in July, leaving a gaping hole in the network's "breaking news" team, so it'll be interesting to see just how the battle shapes up.

One would think TSN will have a decided advantage, but you never do know. My guess is that there'll more than a few curious onlookers tuning in to see how Sportsnet — and their newest addition — fare against the best in the business.

What is he going to do? Sit in a darkened room off to the side like an FBI witness? Maybe do the fuzzed out face thing.

This is, without question, the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

With Kypreos and Watters on the panel I never thought it would be possible to bring down the average IQ but it seems they have done just that.

TSN obviously has the better lineup though I could definitely do without McGuire. He is just annoying.

Give me a break.

When was the last time Eklund was right about anything?

I thought Snet figured out dude was full of shit when they canned his web column on their webspace three weeks into last season.

It's a ratings grab for sure. Say what you want about Eklund, but most of us will flip over to snicker at whatever ridiculous setup they have for him. Sportsnet knows that and that's why they grabbed him. They can't compete man to man with TSN, so it's almost like they're playing the gimmick card. Eklund either thinks it's his big break and doesn't realise he's being used or is looking at it from a business perspective as another opportunity to drive traffic to his site for ad revenue and try to sell more of the ridiculous subscriptions.

1) Ya mean Eklund isn't a legit journalist? LOL
2) He's good for only one thing, entertainment value. Certainly NOT journalistic value. Sportsnet obviously sees that and invited the rumor-whore/fraud to be on their silly panel
3) One wonders if anyone will be keeping score on how many rumors he throws out that turn out to e wrong. Wonder if he'll have (yet another) Allison rumor to share. LOL

Shouldn't there be a string of 'anonymous' commenters bashing everyone for doubting Eklund? I guess he hasn't logged on to his computer yet.

Has anyone ever pulled some stats together about how many trade rumours Eklund gets right? With all of the incorrect things I've seen posted by him, I can only imagine he's well below the average of any of the regulars on TSN and Sportsnet.

To be fair, he does post more in pure quantity then TSN does, so his average is lower due to sheer numbers. That said, I would be interested to see his record compared to something like Satellite Hotstove, as they often have a good half-dozen rumours a week. Although, Hotstove has cut down on the rumours and are now seem to prefer league news.

1) Well of course he has "quantity", as his subscribers are paying big bucks for all those inside rumors that never happen, so he better have new ones to post else the natives will get restless.
2) The person who wrote:"Shouldn't there be a string of 'anonymous' commenters bashing everyone for doubting Eklund?" is totally correct. Its like a religion to these people. Go to his site and disagree with what he writes and they descend like locusts
3) Most negative posts are eventually removed and the offenders banned(Yes, even NOT using abusive language) That's why we consider him a total fraud.
