Emery suspended

Ottawa Senators goaltender Ray Emery received a three-game suspension today for this slash to the face of Montreal Canadiens rookie Maxim Lapierre on Saturday night.

Is this Martin Gerber's time to shine? (These games against Florida, Atlanta and Edmonton might be the last chance he gets this season.)

No discipline for Lapierre's blatant attempt to injure Emery's wrist (which is still healing)? And how does Emery get 3 games for that and Heatley got 0 games for breaking White's ankle?

Someone needs to sort out Colin Campbell.

Leaf's fans don't whine enough to warrant it! Sorry PPP. :(

In a vacuum, I think 3 games is the right number. It was a bad enough incident to merit more than one game or a fine, but the intent wasn't there to merit some sort of message sending.

With the inconsistency shown by the league in meting out punishment, I have no idea if this fits the pattern.

Oh, Emery was definitely in the wrong but watch that clip and tell me that Lapierre isn't targeting Emery's injured wrist?

It's a despicable move but Campbell is a clown so of course the sum total of the discipline is a mess.

If that happens in Washington on a Tuesday night, instead of Montreal on a Saturday night, there is probably no suspension.

Is the League's new policy to dole out suspensions for every hard slash that doesn't result in injury? That would make them consistent, so it's probably too much to ask. Brutal.

He deserved the suspension, but I hope Lapierre received a penalty on the incident, as it's very obvious the fall was intentional. I don't think Emery meant to hit him in the face, he just reacted to getting hit, unfortunately, it's where he hit Lapierre that caused the suspension.

Good call in my opinion. Also, if anything the only bad call was the 2-minute minor on Emery after the play occured. Should have been more. Even if it's an accident (aiming for his shins), you can never get your stick up on someone like that.

What will the suspension be when someone finally kills Lapierre on the ice for being a cheapshotting piece of s***?
