Picking apart payrolls

One of the more interesting aspects of the cap system is that a review of the league shows teams seem to believe in different strategies for how to manage their assets. The Ducks are spending $13 million on two defensemen, and the Lightning are spending $20 million on three forwards. The Detroit Red Wings, the No. 1 team in the Western Conference, have a $750,000 goalie, and the Vancouver Canucks have a $6.75 million goalie.

Teams were slow to learn from teh Buffalo model but I think everyone will be catching up shortly. Also, I think teams are more willing to overpay for a goalie then underpay.

You might want a link for that, as well as a nod to the awesome mofo who sent it to you (cough).
