Hatcher ends his drought

It had been 125 games since Derian Hatcher last savored the moment of seeing the puck go off his stick and into the net.

Recently, Flyers coach John Stevens decided to put the 6-foot-5 defenseman on the power play — in front of the net, as coach Ken Hitchcock used to do in Dallas.

Last night at the Wachovia Center, Hatcher scored his first goal since Dec. 3, 2005, in the Flyers' 3-2 victory over the playoff-bound Atlanta Thrashers.
I was awfully tough on Hatcher to start the year, after he was -13 after just 14 games, but he's been just -5 in his last 56 games on a pretty awful team.

Hatcher can still play — just not well enough to earn $3.5-million per season through 2008-09.
