Ward likely to miss rest of season

"It actually didn't feel like that much, feel that serious, then I took a look at my knee and you could see something was wrong," Cam Ward said. "The Rangers came in the zone a couple more times, and I froze the puck. Once I looked, you could see the muscle."
Talk about a blow to the Carolina Hurricanes' playoff hopes, which now rest entirely with John Grahame.

Ward's knee was sliced open when New York Rangers forward Brad Isbister slid feet first into him in the crease.
  • UPDATE It hasn't been 100-per-cent confirmed that Ward will, in fact, miss the entire season, but given the nature of the injury, it's highly likely we've seen the last of last year's Conn Smythe winner — for the regular season, anyway.

Life's little ironies: if the 'Canes hadn't traded Isbister, he wouldn't have felled their number one goalie. That's got to be the first time in NHL history it would have been better to have kept Brad Isbister on your team.

That's too bad.
It's not like Carolina's forwards ever crashed the opposing team's net or high-sticked opponents in the eye.

With all the equipment and protection goalies have, you would expect muscle strains--not to have the muscle laid open by a skate blade. Ouch!

they've edited that article (and especially the headline) to indicate that Ward is out "indefinitely".
Due to the nature of that injury, and the location of it, I won't hold my breath. It'll take a little while for that to heal properly, and any bending of the knee will slow that down. Not to mention the ever-present risk of staph infection.

Grahame is good, but not good enough to carry the team on his back every night. It's time for the scorers to really step it up and know that they'll have to score four or more to win. Todd help us if something happens to Grahame. Justin Peters is NOT the answer.

I don't know about "brave and insightful" but it was pretty damn funny. -Art V.
