IIHF releases world rankings
Heading into the world hockey championship in Moscow, here's a look at the men's world rankings as per the IIHF. The top nine teams following the tournament receive an automatic berth in the Vancouver Olympics a little under three years from now (teams marked in purple are taking part):
Depending on what happens in the tournament, Canada can potentially reclaim the top spot (although it's very unlikely). A gold-medal win is worth 1,200 points, while the Canadians need 170 more points than Sweden to move past them.
There's a 40-point interval between first through fifth, meaning if Team Canada wins, Sweden would have to finish seventh or lower in order for the Canadians to climb above them.
