2007 World Hockey Championship
Canada wins gold

  • Rick Nash was named the player of the game after scoring two goals in a 4-2 Team Canada win over Finland in Moscow today

  • This is Canada's third world title in the past five years

  • Kari Lehtonen was named the top goaltender of the tournament, while the injured trio of Evgeni Malkin, Andrei Markov and Petteri Nummelin were part of the all-star team

  • Nash also takes home the tournament MVP

  • Dion Phaneuf had a terrific tournament for Canada, and one of the interesting side stories with him is that he played with netminder Cam Ward throughout junior with the Red Deer Rebels. That pair were the biggest reason that Brent Sutter's crew were simply impossible to score on from 2001-04, and it's nice to see them play that shutdown role internationally now

The 4th goal from Rick Nash was insane. He was being bearhugged from behind and still managed to pull off a deke and slide it home. He was great out there for Canada all tournament long.
