Balsillie finds his team
NashvillePost.com has learned that Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of Research In Motion (makers of the Blackberry electronic communication device) is purchasing the Predators from Wisconsin businessman Craig Leipold. Leipold has owned the club since it first took to the ice in 1998.I don't know why I'm surprised but I am.

Perhaps because there wasn't months of hype and buildup to this acquisition -- just an odd article here and there about breaking leases and such, buried in the locals. Of course, that probably has nothing to do with not having Crosby, heaven help the cynic who ever thought that. ;)
So what's the over-under on the time of a bidding war between Nashville, KC, Hamilton, Seattle, and Houston over who gets the franchise?
I would guess that he'd be looking at Kitchener-Waterloo before any of those options. Maybe play out of Copps Coliseum for a season or two while he builds an arena?
Gotta agree with James though, in that this one came out of nowhere...
Well, there had been rumblings about low attendance in Nashville, but nothing much else on the level of national news.
They are here for a few years due to contracts unless he pays some major penalties and i wouldn't see him doing that.
Even with the low attendance they are in Nashville for a few more years (at least 2).
Rest of my thoughts (a Preds fan) here.
