Bettman's in the money

NHL owners rewarded Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly coming out of the lockout, giving each of them a roughly $2 million raise for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, according to the league’s tax return.

Bettman’s salary rose 57 percent from June 2005 to June 2006, topping out at $5.9 million for the first fiscal year following the lockout, which ended in July 2005. The salary includes a $400,000 contribution to his retirement plan.
The NFL's former commissioner Paul Tagliabue was receiving around $10-million per year before Roger Goodell took over that gig, while baseball's Bud Selig made $14.5-million in 2005. The NBA's David Stern's salary wasn't readily available online, but it's safe to say he's in the $10-million range.

The owners need to use their little brains and realize how dumb it is to give a raise to the person who has ruined the league and killed its popularity in the U.S., and is trying to take the game away from Canada.

Do you think JFJ will be able to trade Kubina to the league office for Bettman? It would help the Leafs get better calls from the officials.
On the other hand I'm proud that my team raised ticket prices again so that Mr. Gillet could give that pukey weasel a raise.

Karmanos actually thought Bettman did a good job during the lockout. Does that make it official that the owners hve the collective intelligence of a sea urchin? Not only do the owners pay some of their players stupid amounts of money for distinctly sub-standard effort and/or results, they do the same thing with their commish!

At least they are consistently dain-bramaged.

Isn't this an argument that the NHL should expand its salary cap to the league offices?

Of course Karmanos loves Bettman.
If it weren't for Bettman's lockout, Peter would get welfare payments this season for this 2006 Stanley Cup champions in Raleigh.
Yes Carolina still gets a welfare cheque even after winning the Cup less than one year ago. Oh and Montreal and Toronto get to pay into that fund as well even though there was no playoffs for either team.
How about this fellow Habs and Leafs fans. Let's invite Bettman to a game in Montreal between our two fine squads and then early in the first period we can collectively re-enact the Richard Riot and attack Bettman in his seat.
It would be great for national unity.
