Locals formulate bid for Preds has learned that a group of local businessmen, including some from the healthcare sector, is putting together an ownership proposal for the Nashville Predators. The bid would be offered only if current owner Craig Leipold's deal with Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie falls apart.

Those familiar with the deal acknowledge that they have not presented a proposal to Leipold and are prohibited from doing so while Balsillie's offer is on the table.
In my opinion, this might be the only thing that can truly save the Predators. Local ownership putting up substantial cash would be something Leipold would be interested in, as he obviously has ties to the market and wants to see the team stay.

Can this group put up cash in the neighbourhood of Balsillie, however? I honestly doubt it, and it remains to be seen how the Board of Governors approach his $238-million purchase bid.

The team simply isn't worth that much in Nashville.
