The mood in Leafland
A friend of mine here at The Globe sent me this in an email today:
I was walking past a sports bar at Yonge and College last night [in downtown Toronto]. From a distance, I see that it's packed. All of a sudden, there's a huge cheer. My immediate suspicion is that Anaheim scored. When I get close enough to look in the window and see the TV, that's exactly right. Everybody was going nuts in there, cheering and high-fiving.Frankly, this strikes me as a sad state of affairs.
About 20 minutes later, on my way back in the opposite direction, I happen to pass by again as the clock was ticking down. Everyone in there starts chanting "Go Leafs Go! Go Leafs Go!" at the top of their lungs.
That's too much even for me.
