Wheel of misfortune

Hi James,

Read, with interest, your blog on NBC's Playoff coverage issues (Ottawa/Buffalo). Local NBC affiliate here in San Diego cut the last few minutes of Saturday's Game 3 Ottawa win over the Ducks so they could show Wheel of Fortune in HD instead. I was in a pub with several fans when it happened.

Versus coverage here has been great — shame NBC has a stranglehold on the remaining games.

How many times with shit like this have to happen before Bettman mans up and cuts the deal with NBC?

Could be worse... I got out of a movie in downtown Boston and was looking to catch the final 2 periods in a bar. Finally found it in a 4th bar after the first two refused to switch (Cavs game) and I didn't even bother at a 3rd. 4th major sport indeed.

PPP -- NBC can't be blamed for this one. That was a local affiliate that made that decision based on what they thought they could get better ratings from, something that could happen regardless of which networks controls the rights. If the hockey fans in San Diego created enough of a stink about it, then they won't do it again.

And I thought Wheel was a CBS show?

WITN-TV in eastern North Carolina didn't show a second of game 3. We were graced with a "hurricane report" and a telethon instead.
