Who backs Balsillie?

Sources indicate that between five and 10 NHL governors have already expressed their support for the Balsillie bid, either directly or through intermediaries. A majority vote is needed to reject a sale.

So the Balsillie camp will now begin reaching out to governors through back channels, seeking out support. At the meeting, New Jersey's Lou Lamoriello and Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks apparently pushed back at Mr. Bettman, so that is somewhere to start.

Well, that's something. It really does seem like this is all Bettman acting unilaterally, doesn't it?

What a shock. Big market owners are tired of writing revenue sharing checks to Nashville.

Lou Lamoriello is well respected and has a lot of influence in the league so having him on your side means a lot.
