Hull, Taylor officially join Dallas
The Stars on Tuesday made Hull a special adviser to hockey operations and named former Los Angeles Kings general manager Dave Taylor the director of player personnel. It's going to be interesting to see which of this generation's stars is able to excel in a front office role, now that we have the likes of Steve Yzerman, Al MacInnis, Ron Francis and Hull all moving into management shortly after retiring.
Several lesser known recently retired players are also in player development roles in Don Sweeney (Boston) and Tom Fitzgerald (Pittsburgh) — and I'm sure there are others that I just can't place at the moment — which makes me wonder if a role player might be a better fit as a GM.
(And the great Garth Snow experiment doesn't count.)

99 doing just fine in Phoenix... His former agent got canned because he never asked 99's opinion;)
I'm just hoping that both the Vancouver Canucks and Trevor Linden come to their senses, and Trevor is signed into a senoir management job with the Canucks this year, instead of being the 22nd man on a 22 man roster for another year.
yeah frank, i totally agree - i mean why have veteran leadership on a young team otherwise lacking?
why have a proven playoff performer on a team otherwise lacking? linden was sure an embarrassment in the playoffs this year, eh?
"special assistant on hockey matters" is that like assistant manager?
Yes it is and no it is not.
These Director of players personnel and other such titles are different as what they mean depending on a team.
Same title in Boston, Edmonton or Dallas doesn't mean same job.
But with Dave Taylor's experience as a GM with LA Kings he'll be very important in Dallas.
Armstrong and Taylor must be quite a good friends since Taylor is more experienced hockey man and therefor a threat to Armstrong.
What happened to John Muckler when he signed Bryan Murray?
"Special assitant on hockey matters"? That sounds like a Dwight Shrute job title.
"Special assistant on hockey matters"
is Stars' speak for "Schmoozing with the VIP friends of Mr. Hicks in the corporate boxes"
No mention of why Hull is available? He got fired from NBC.
Jeff, Hull left before NBC gave the pre-game show a boot.
Next year Pierre McGuire will be doing the colour commentary from the stands as he sells hot dogs to help the NHL generate some additional revenue.
"Get your Hot Dogs...Get your MONSTER hot dogs..."
