Isles get Comrie

On the heels of adding four-time NHL Star-Bill Guerin, the Islanders have signed center MIKE COMRIE to a one-year contract. The 26-year old Comrie had 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points in 65 games last season with Phoenix and Ottawa.
Garth Snow keeps on buying from the leftover bin. I'd seen a number of sources, including today's Ottawa Sun, that the Islanders had really wanted Comrie, who was waiting to receive an offer from the Senators before acting.

That, apparently, never came, and Comrie's this team's new No. 1 centre.

UPDATE Newday's Greg Logan has the terms: it's a one-year deal worth $3.375-million.

UPDATE More from Logan on how Bill Guerin and Comrie conversed about joining the Islanders together:
The two free agents spent part of the day talking to each other about the prospect of joining the Islanders together to make sure they are coming to a team that can remain competitive for a playoff spot. Guerin previously told the Islanders he wouldn’t come unless they could add offensive help. Comrie had the same reservations. In essence they could sign almost as a package deal.
With their powers combined...

Comrie played for team USA?

Am I reading this correctly?

It happens to the best of us.

Just don't let it happen again. :)

I didn't think it could happen, but I actually feel sympathy for the Islanders.

That is a setup for a punchline if I've ever seen one, so here goes: with their powers combined, Bill Guerin and Mike Comrie saved Garth Snow from being beaten to death by coach Ted Nolan. Nolan is still threatening violent action against Snow unless two more NHL caliber players are signed by this franchise.

Party on, Garth!
