Schneider signs in Vancouver
Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed goaltender Cory Schneider. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.Schneider's reportedly the Canucks' top prospect, which is an interesting problem to have given the fact Roberto Luongo has a lock on 70+ games as the team's starter for the next few years. Reports had Nonis attempting to unload Schneider to move up in the entry draft last month, but that didn't happen and there's a good chance he'll be with the Canucks as Luongo's backup or as the starter with the Manitoba Moose.
His numbers with Boston College, both as a rookie and a sophomore, were terrific, but that's a big jump for a goaltender to make, especially at 21. It'll be interesting to see how this develops.
