This is going to be a continually updated list, and the rankings are based on where players fit into the overall UFA picture prior to July 1. Those marked with an x were restricted free agents not given qualifying offers.
As for the dollar figures: Most of these were generated in early June, which is why they're on the low side by at least $500,000 — and especially for defencemen.
UPDATE Mike York and Aaron Miller are the first to go in Week 2, and the pickins are getting slim.
UPDATE On the 12th day of free agency, Sheldon Souray went to Edmonton.
UPDATE Day 19 of free agency, David Aebischer finds a home. With the Coyotes. Beggars can't be choosers.
UPDATE Yashin's gone.
UPDATE Brian Boucher's back with the Flyers. Sorry folks, that's all I've got this week so far.
UPDATE Day 26, Nashville scoops up Martin Gelinas in a savvy move.
UPDATE Day 34, Patrice Brisebois is a Montreal Canadien.
UPDATE Day 41, 29 teams are furious that Luke Richardson has signed in Ottawa.
UPDATE A day later, the Islanders claim Andy Sutton.
UPDATE Nils Ekman signs in Russia on Aug. 12. So much for playing with Crosby. Joe DiPenta has also re-signed in Anaheim.
UPDATE Alex Auld and Jamie Heward both are off the block.
UPDATE There go Linden, Peca and Tjarnqvist.
UPDATE Belfour and Aubin are signed.

that nylander estimated price should be over $5 mil/year.
nice compilation
thanks for the post
Overall great job, I believe Stuart and Hamrlik are more looking for $4-$5mil not $2.5 to $3, otherwise Calgary would have resigned one of them over Sarich at $3.6.
All the price estimates are from early June, and I didn't get a chance to rework them after Timonen and friends started breaking the bank.
cross off preissing
Robidas is not a free agent.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?name=Stephane+Robidas&hubname=nhl-stars
Mark Smith C SJS is a UFA (What team doesn't want a Didgeridoo player).
And Nylander officially a Oiler.
Ken Klee has signed with the Atlanta Thrashers.
Bonk & deVries go to Nashville
According to RDS Center Bryan Smolinski has signed a 2 year contract of 2 million per year with a no exchange clause.
Supposedly the Penguins have re-signed Scuderi.
melichar should be about number 546 on a list of 500. yes, hes that bad.
He's behind Ozolinsh and Niinimaa, so that's something.
When is the world's best defenceman (Souray) going to sign?
Souray has not signed because he's looking for a big contract more likely to be higher than 5M a year.
Speaking of Mtl they are talking to Forsberg right now negotiating a contract. Seems like Gainey is still drunk from St-Jean lol.

I just found your blog after seeing a link on spector's.
Nice list. Although I'm still fuming over the Sabres letting Drury and Briere walk.
Man... that is very slim pickings indeed. And you gotta wonder how many of the remaining players are considering retirement.
Thanks for the list James.
Forgot Peca is left, he's probably the only decent one not signed. Not sure why everyone gets so worked up about free agency. I wonder if a team was scraped and rebuilt solely with FA how would they fare?
What about Mark Smith from the Sharks? Not on the list!? That guy works his butt off every shift. He is one of the most underrated Centers/Wingers in the league. Someone should sign him... ah-hem Doug Wilson...ah-hem!
petr nedveds not on the list.
Nedved is playing in the Czech Republic.
rory fitzpatrick?
I'm hearing rumblings of Yashin to Russia....
Yashin to Russia -- that's an E5, according to Eklund.
Eric Lindros all but announced his retirement the other day when he said he was concentrating on NHLPA matters these days rather than thinking about the upcoming season. Eric is clearly waiting for some team to come along and beg him to play one more year, which just isn't going to happen.
James, you need to take McLennan's name off the goalie list - he signed with a team in the Russian Super League a couple of days ago.
A lot of these guys will be signed in the first two weeks of August, after all the arbitration awards have been finalized and all of the Group 2 players are signed.
James, just came across a great reference site for the status of RFAs and UFAs, put together by Cory Brolund, a Florida Panthers fan. He lists every Group 2,3 and 6 Free Agent for each team and where they have signed. Its at:
www.geocities.com/floridapanthers2000/free2007.html
Jackman signed with the Red Bulls Salzburg of the Austrian league a few days ago.
Kolnik signed somewhere in Europe. I think it was with Swiss team but I'm not sure. Anyway, who really cares?
I think it's safe to say that Markov and Sutton are really the only 3-4s left out there, and that a vast majority of the guys you have listed as 5-6s easily could be 7-8 guys that should be willing to accept a 2-way deal.
Klemm is signed
Niinimaa to Switzerland
Not like anyone really noticed though.
