Canadians buy in to Lightning
Interesting, to be sure.
MacLean indicated these other partners were out of town at the time of yesterday's announcement, and will be introduced in the near future as part of the ownership group.
Here's betting we're looking at some heavy hitters.

Balsillie?
Heavy hitters? I thought you were implying the last few days that the group behind Maclean wasn't heavy enough: which is it?
Honestly, how can we know? They're anonymous individuals (like yourself) and we haven't been given a whole lot of information.
But, given no one bought the team outright, I'm guessing their financial heft can't compete with a guy like Bill Davidson. They're going to be heavy hitters in the sense that these won't be unknowns in Toronto business circles, not that they'll be 'richest men in the world' material.
So to review, according to Mirtle; the octogenarian billionaire that doesn't even come to the games, doesn't spend to the cap, but sells out his building is a BETTER fit than a group of hockey crazed owners that can't wait to move to the Tampa area and start enjoying their NHL team.
I think you've got to at least factor in that Doug 'franchise-ruiner' MacLean is one of those 'hockey-crazed owners'.
The team won a Cup with Davidson there — and that was before there was a cap; I find it hard to rip that too badly.
