Project Reebok Runway

Anyone else just a little underwhelmed by all of the 'redesigned' jerseys we've been seeing over the summer?

The latest comes from the New York Islanders, Charles Wang's little club that tries so hard but just can't get much right lately. It looks kinda like the Gremlins pyjamas I had as a kid:
"I love that it's more fitted. Skinny is definitely a menswear trend and very hot. Hated, hated, hated the tie on the neckline," said Nina Garcia, Elle Magazine's fashion director and the very vocal and sometimes tough judge on Bravo hit show, "Project Runway." "I don't really get it unless there's some functional reason for it. It looks like a little boy's shirt."
Exactly, my fashionista friend.

But I'm sure the makeover will be a hit in Buffalo, where they could sell a paper bag with arm holes and a Sabres logo for $119 at the HSBC gift shop.

Thanks to Sean at for the pointer.

Did Karl Lagerfeld deem horizontal stripes to be gauche? If so, just dump them entirely and go with solid color sweaters. Why move the secondary and teriary colors to the sleeves. That's just a ridiculous jersey.

That interesting look.

Disruptive coloration is effective for zebras, but I'm not sure about the efficacy of the same strategy for hockey players. Too busy goes out of style real quick. Detroit, for one team, isn't doing a whole lot with their jerseys at all. They are moving the C and the A to the right chest instead of the left side to avoid a seam, but no piping or multicolored sleeves.

Thank you Buffalo Sabres' bandwagon fans for making the idiots at Reebok think that having numbers on the chest is anything other than ridiculous.

God I hope they don't butcher the Leafs' jersey.

Do you ever stop?

We know you're a Leafs fan. We know you hate the Sabres. Give it up already, please, it's old.

If I remember correctly, Raycroft asked for those numbers on the front of the sweaters so that he could see who just beat him gloveside.

I really doubt that the Leafs' jerseys will change much.

Matt: It's not only Leafs fans who hate the Slugs jerseys.

For those who haven't heard, Reebok's new insistence on slim fitting jersey, with multiple panels, now has the Wings' "C" on the player's right shoulder.

I don't claim to be a purist, but all this tinkering seems really pointless.

I gotta say, personally i like the Predators new jerseys. It is more trendy, and will need to be updated more often. Not "classic" as the old ones. but I dig them right now.

I just with NHL 08 was going to feature the new cut/fit so it looked right, not just the new designs.

Has anyone heard from the goalies on these jerseys? "Slim fitting" could translate into "less mobility", probably only by a margin, but every tiny bit matters.

What a mess. Maybe they could add horizontal bars like the Habs red unis as well. Or maybe make half the sweater blue and half orange. It looks like somebody's grandma came up with a design for a quilt.

The Stanley Cup stripes, although not new, are lame. Imagine teams with more than ten Cups adding this to their uniforms. Will anybody by able to read the uniform numbers when this mess is in motion?

Nobody likes the slug logo.

Boo-hoo Matt. Do you think a Leaf fan cares about a Sabres fan complaining about repeated digs at their team?

It's part of sports to needle your rivals. Plus, the post mentioned the Sabres' sales and I wanted to note that the sweaters were still hideous but bandwagon fans will buy anything with the team logo on it.

double d - that made me laugh and cry at the same time.

The numbers on the jersey are the only thing the new sabres jersey got right. At least buffalo's new edge jerseys can't get any worse...

I'm more interested in the Gremlin pyjamas.

Actually, the Wings had their "C" on the right side back in the day, so it's technically a throwback.
