Tortorella: Not a Pistons fan

Today's read o' the day is actually from an interview Lightning coach John Tortorella did yesterday afternoon on The Fan 590 here in Toronto. In it, the surly bench boss basically lost his marbles, ripping into the team's Michigan-based ownership — and especially CEO/governor Tom Wilson for how he ran the team.

That's right: A coach criticizing his boss's boss. Or is that his boss's boss's boss?

We'll see how well this goes over — and especially so given the team hasn't even changed hands yet. It's a good thing Tortorella got the thumbs up guarantee from Doug MacLean and friends.

Not that that's always a joyful experience.

He sounds a little rambling, too. Maybe the Florida heat is getting to him.

It's funny in that those sentiments could have been expressed in a much more diplomatic way (I'm sure in Davidson/Wilson's mind the Lightning are the stepsister to the Pistons), but Tortorella's just not the guy to put a shiny veneer on that sort of thing.

It's too bad Fonzie is a Cup-winning coach because he'll never be far from the new job. He'd be brilliant in the broadcast booth.

Hey, I thought I was the only guy that thinks Torts looks a hell of a lot like Fonzie in his prime.
My NHL dream team would include Torts as coach and Burke as GM.
They'd be colourful to say the least.

They might also throttle each other. :)

If people don't want an honest answer, don't ask an honest man. If you don't want a smart answer, don't ask a smart man. If you can't bear to hear your weaknesses, don't ask. I can't wait to hear him. I'll watch the station no matter which teams are playing. He may be a Fonzie lookalike, but he's a classy dresser, articulate, and sorry, he uses the "F" word more than the rest of the world who wince whenever they hear it, but say it themselves in front of their children and others. Mute the broadcast and watch hockey if you're looking for a way to criticize a new voice. He'll be brilliant if you give him a chance and listen. You may learn something.
