'Hawks prospect hospitalized

Blackhawks defenseman Ryan Stokes was hospitalized Wednesday night after sustaining a severe cut on his face, presumably by a skate, during Chicago's 4-3 preseason loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stokes bled on the ice late in the third period after he tried to check Columbus forward Jared Boll. He fell in a pile along the boards and then skated off under his own power. Stokes was taken by ambulance to the University of Chicago Hospital after the game to be stitched.

Blackhawks spokesman Jim De Maria said Stokes would likely spend Wednesday night in the hospital for observation.
Stokes is from near Sarnia, Ontario, and played for Mississauga in the OHL. He's a great big defenceman who wasn't really anywhere on the 'Hawks depth chart after playing the last two seasons in the Wild system with the Houston Aeros.

Here's hoping he's okay.

Jonathan Toews broke a finger in the same game and will miss the next few weeks.
