To the polls
It's almost time for the preseason predictions, but first let's see what the collective wisdom says about all 30 teams' playoff chances this season (select eight teams in each conference):

I don't know who the two people were who voted before me, but Nashville ain't making the playoffs. Sorry.
This seems to get harder for me to do every year.
Honestly, only a couple of teams don't look like they have a shot, and only slightly more look like locks.
I'm a lazy-ass. Can you sort those by number of votes instead of alphabetically?
Or the one or two people that have to be different and not put Anaheim/SJ in there....
Who voted for phenoix?
With the schedule set up the way it is (eight games vs. division rivals), is it likely that only one team from the Central will make the playoffs?
I realize it's the weakest division in hockey, but I can't see Vancouver, Colorado, Calgary and Minnestoa ALL making it and not at least ONE of Nashville, St. Louis or Chicago qualifying.
Am I off-base with that?
looks like the west has 8 pretty strong favourites. colorado is sitting pretty good for a team that missed the playoffs last year.
and the east has a lot more chaff after the top 5. only a couple consensus chumps there (boston & nyi)
Philly is going to be the most overrated team in the league this year.

Nashville plays in arguably the weakest division in the league. They'll make it by virtue of not sucking as much as Chicago and Columbus.
The unbalanced schedule will be prejudicial to the Northwest Division, which I believe has 4 teams good enough to make the playoffs, but probably only 3 will make it. The worse team of those 4 is the Canucks, but with that goaltending, they will probably progress. Calgary is very strong, Colorado gained not only Smyth and Hannan but Leopold as well, who was only played about 14 games last season, I think. Much stronger. The Wild are very strong and almost won the division last year. It's really going to be tight on the strongest division of the NHL this season...
Ok: who voted for columbus and phoenix?
When voting
Remember its unlikely that 4 teams from one division will make the play-offs.
The Atlantic & Northwest Divisions both have four teams voted into the play-offs after 301 votes.
I'll confess that I voted for Columbus [Hitchcock] as my dark horse team in the West.
