Greene's injury
That's, uh... that's a tough one.
It looks like they're calling this a broken ankle, which is bad news for the Oilers.

A few questions:
1) Do the Oilers lead the NHL in man-games lost to injury this year? I have to think Moreau and Pisani alone clinch this (26 total), but it's hard to say.
2) Did the Oilers lead the NHL in man-games lost to injury last year? Again, Moreau and Tjarnqvist have to make this close, plus having the entire D corps in sickbay for the last 15-20.
3) What is the typical figure for man-games lost per year, as an average?
I'm not looking for exact numbers, so much as a place where I can figure this out for myself with relative ease, though if someone has that stuff on hand, I won't say no.

I don't have any numbers on this, Doogie, but I'll throw the Ducks up there as well.
By my count, the Ducks are at 36--Schneider (13), Giguere (6), Bertuzzi (6), Pahlsson (5), Rob Niedermayer (3), Getzlaf (2), and Moen (1).
Speaking of the ducks, what happened to Niedermayer and Selanne? Their retire/dont retire soap opera is idiotic

Crap, I mean 38. I forgot that Todd Marchant missed a pair of games too.
Here's my count, and I'm sure I missed some:
Moreau (13)
Pisani (13)
Souray (7)
Pitkanen (5)
That's 36, 44 if you count Mathieu Roy, who wouldn't be playing if it weren't for the other injuries.
I count 39 on the Leafs:
Wellwood (13)
Colaiacovo (13)
Ponikarovsky (3)
Tucker (4)
McCabe (3)
Devereaux (3)
I forgot about the Ducks and the Leafs; regardless of how you count things, though, it's pretty ugly early this year. I mean, cosmic karma for trying to rise above our station in '06 is one thing, but come on. Enough.
Good Luck Matt, get well soon. Your fans here in Grand Ledge wish you well, and a speedy recovery.
