Meet Paul Kelly

Asked what he stood for and how he would deal with several contentious issues confronting the NHLPA, the 51-year-old former Boston trial lawyer spoke of establishing a relationship with the NHL and particularly commissioner Gary Bettman.

"What I'd like to do is sit down with Gary and just talk for awhile," Kelly told the media at a news conference in Toronto. "We need to get to know each other … I understand there's a line there, that we represent our sides. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have respect for one another."
I had planned to go down and attend the news conference this morning, but it's my day off, and well, something came up. My guess is we'll be seeing enough of Mr. Kelly in the coming years as it is.

Not looking to get rich? $2 million a year must be the new poverty level.

The $2 million a year is not "rich" by the standard of US attorneys, especially one with his qualifications, if you ask me to make a guess. I wonder if anyone in the know cares to shed some light.

You don't get rich on $2 million a year. Not in 2007.
